Medical Update

Greetings in Jesus.

We want to thank you for your prayers.

We have decided to keep family, friends and prayer partners updated through our normal eUpdate list.  We are very grateful for the many who have expressed their blessings and prayers and we are trusting in our Lord that He is preparing to teach us many lessons in the next months.

This next phase of the cancer treatment is going to take several weeks to get everything organized.   Today we met with the IR doctor (Interventional Radiology).  They were very clear in their explanations and of course talked about several outcomes and ways the treatment may progress.  However, for the most part we felt that that the IR doctor was very encouraging and felt that things would progress positively.  The next steps and time frames are:

  • Getting approvals for the Y90 treatments from insurance. This can take 1 to 3 weeks, but we hope it will be the shorter time frame.
  • Once insurance approves, they will do a procedure to map the blood vessels of the cancer and through that process will be able to calculate the dose of the radiation needed.  This is an outpatient procedure.
  • About two weeks after the mapping procedure, they would do the actual procedure to implant the Y90 / Radioactive pellets into the cancer.  Also an outpatient procedure.
  • The following two weeks after the implantation, they would expect that there is some limited side effects the most common being tiredness, so they usually suggest a schedule that takes that into account.
  • One month after the treatment, there would be an appointment to check on general wellness and to talk about any issues that have come up because of the treatment and this will include blood tests checking on liver functions and other indicators.
  • Then, at three months after the one month appointment, there would be another CT Scan to analyze how the radiation is affecting the cancer.   We are projecting out that this would bring us to about the end of June, when we would be getting some idea of how effective the treatment has been and rework options going forward from there.

During the three months while the treatment is in the liver, the doctor said that there is not normally any limitations.  He also indicated that the treatment can be repeated and most likely will be in Eric's case.

We are waiting on reworking plans and schedules related to ministry in Mexico and we will plan to remain in Indy until the treatment is done and we are sure there is no significant side effects.

Again, we are grateful to so many who have expressed their blessings and are keeping us bathed in prayer.

Love always,

Eric & Dee

Blessed New Year 2022!

As 2021 came in with hopes and challenges, so does it end.
2021 saw, the first year anniversary with our newest IMPACTO church,
El Ancla (The Anchor Church), has grown to reach close to 70 at Sunday worship.  Amazing! For a church that began online during the pandemic. They jumped over many hurdles including shepherding members from virtual meetings to in-person church and after a few more months opening Ancla Kids, the children’s area. We enjoyed being present for the 9 baptisms at the Anniversary service.

The Anchor Church Planning Retreat
La Viña Church, which is our home church when in Mexico, was the IMPACTO'S first church plant in Queretaro. It has been a joy for us to experience as we see them maturing into a unified team with clear goals and purposes for the upcoming year. Challenges persists for them as they want to reach a new goal for multiplying and growing during this still difficult time.

December and January permitted us to join with these church leaders in their yearly evaluations and planning retreats. God is moving in big ways and he allows us to share in these special times as mentors.

As for us personally, December took us to our knees as the doctor informed Eric they had seen an anomaly in the liver while looking over a scan of his kidney when looking for a kidney stone. After consulting with tumor specialists and a liver specialist it was decided that it is cancerous. Although it seems contained it needs immediate radiation treatment. All this news was overwhelming, but as several of you were aware and began to pray, we felt reassured that God is in control! He has been so good to us we rest on his promises. Doctors say the treatment is aggressive but has few side affects as it is sent directly into the tumor and released over time. We should even be able to travel and carry on our responsibilities. All this is very amazing. We ask that you continue your prayers that this is the case or that God would heal completely.
We will keep you all updated.
We thank God that we were allowed to travel during the holidays, with all this going on. We celebrated Christmas with Holly, Sergio and the grandkids. We attended year end celebrations and work retreats in Mexico.  We felt very blessed.

Please remember our churches in your prayers as this new year has the potential to see extensive growth and new ministries will be opening as IMPACTO extensively multiplies its influence.

Christmas Eve Celebration
We also want to let you know that New International continues to grow and reach more and more communities around the world. We are so proud to be a part of this professional mission group. Tell you more about that in the next update!

We praise God for you all, who have made our ministry possible!
COMING EVENTS:
-Jan. 12 / Appointment with Radiology to set up treatments for Eric's tumor.
-First few Days of February / We are projecting that the operation will be done to implant the radiation treatment in the tumor.
-Mid-February / We hope to return to Mexico.
-March 6-12 / Regional Director's meetings in Fort Myers at the offices of New International.
-April 12 / We would return to INDY for an appointment with the Liver Specialist.
Prayer Request:
-We ask that you keep us in your prayers as Eric begins treatment.  The Specialist has indicated that the radiation treatment could shrink and even "disappear" the cancer completely.  We are praying for just that!
-We also ask that you be praying that we can keep this challenge in perspective and that we will have the energy and focus to continue ministering effectively.

Duggins Family e-update May-Nov. 2021

Picture
The entire Duggins Family at the Indy homestead.
We remain grateful for the many blessings that we have experienced over the last few months.  We arrived in Indiana on May 5 and immediately arranged for our first vaccination for COVID.

Then it was to work!  We arranged for several appointments with potential new partnering congregations in Tennessee and Atlanta and over the next two weeks were traveling to those appointments.  We also had been invited to do two presentations about the Cell Church strategy (a church based on small groups) which we have used over the last 25 years in the Mexico church planting ministry.  We returned to Indiana and arranged for the second vaccination.
PicturePat "Naomi" Rumler went home to be with Christ on August 28, 2021
This summer, though filled with a lot of activity and ministry, was also a time of concern for Dee and her entire family.  Mom Rumler’s physical and mental health had deteriorated quite a bit during the COVID lockdowns.  Visitation by family had been impossible for a good portion of that time and when things did open up some, there were still major limitations on those visits.  When visits were possible, Dee would try to visit twice a week for several hours.  In mid-August, during a conference at the memory care unit it was obvious that these medical health care workers considered Mom was in her last phase and they suggested that the family consider working with a hospice group which was done.  We were scheduled to return to Mexico on August 24, but canceled those plans.

On early Saturday morning, August 28, Mom Rumler went home in her sleep.  That afternoon we went with Dee’s sisters to make the arrangements for the funeral. The service was planned for that following Tuesday, August 31.   Eric had the privilage to do the funeral service and the grave site service, since mom’s pastor in Anderson was already involved with a funeral at the same time.

We are grateful for many notes and other expressions of love after Mom’s homecoming.  Thanks so much!

The next week, we began to look at our return to Mexico and made reservations for September 7.   Over the last couple of days we have been resettling back into the house, reconnecting to Internet (looking for passwords, etc.).  Dee is getting all the schooling material together, which was a lot of the weight in the suitcases for our return.  Dee will be continuing to teach grandson, Eric several of his subjects.  She actually started in Indiana by Zoom but now will be with him in-person at the Alvarado house.

The month of September will be full.   We will be doing our coaching time, now also in-person and the two Administrative meetings for the two church plants here in Queretaro.   We will also continue our contacts with New International affiliates.  On September 17, we will have the blessing to be at the first anniversary of the Anchor Church here in Queretaro.   And we will be at the party of the La Viña Church in celebration of Mexican Independence on Wednesday evening of September 15.
PictureDr. Noemi Perez Went home on September 8, 2021
We got back to Queretaro to also receive some very sad news the day after we arrived.  Dr. Noemi Perez, a faithful and dynamic member of the Jubilee Church in Pachuca went home after a sever case of COVID.  Her mother preceded her by just a few days.

Noemi was a major blessing to the ministry in Pachuca and especially to the Jubilee church. She was also our personal doctor while we were in Pachuca.  She was a devoted follower of Jesus and will be missed by many in Mexico!

COVID has been a major challenge in Mexico and as is happening in the United States there has been a new wave in Mexico of the other COVID variants.  So far, the Queretaro government has not increased limitations that affect the Churches but there are growing concerns that those limitations may be coming.

We will return to the United States on October 5 and very quickly begin a drive to Fort Myers for the annual Regional Directors Meetings at the home offices of New International.   Those go for a week and then we are staying on in Fort Myers to observe the new affiliate orientation into the following week.  We have possibly three new affiliates joining our region that will be at that orientation.   We also hope to make a couple of church contacts visits during those two weeks.

Returning to Indy at the end of October, we will be there for only about two weeks before we travel to Richmond, Virginia for the iCOM (International Conference on Missions).   The whole IMPACTOLatino team will be at this year’s conference since IMPACTO is one of five missions being presented for special recognition.  We will be representing Latina American church planting.  Also, the IMPACTOLatino Board of Advisors will be meeting on November 20 in Richmond.

Returning home to Indy, we will have Thanksgiving with family in Indiana and plans are presently to return to Queretaro on November 30.  Tentative plans are that we will be in Mexico until the first few days of April, 2022.
Coming Events:
15 Sept / Noche Mexicana at La Viña Church.
17 Sept / First Anniversary Celebration for the Anchor Church.
5 Oct / Return to Indy.
8-23 Oct / Regional Directors Meetings and New Afíliate Orientation
16-23 Nov / iCOM and IMPACTOLatino Board of Advisors Meeting in Richmond, VA
24 Nov. / Thanks-giving
30 Nov. / Return to Queretaro.
Prayer Requests:
  • -Praise: We were blessed by so many during the homecoming of Mom Rumler.  We especially were blessed by the unity and love of Dee’s two sisters as they worked together the last days and the arrangements for the funeral celebration.
  • -Pray for the Jubillee Church family at the loss of Dr. Noemi.   She was a counselor and cell pastor that brought a deep understand of commitment and knowledge of the Bible and Christian life to the church family.
  • -Be praying for Andrew as he begins to retool and look at his next phase in life.
  • -Be praying for a friend and colleague, Vicki Syverson.  We worked with Vicki and Greg for many years in Pachuca.  Vicki was just diagnosed with a tumor in her femur.  She returned to the United States to get more tests and to look into treatments.
  • -Be praying for our fund-raising efforts for the new churches.  We are waiting on decisions for potential additions to the support base for the Anchor Church here in Queretaro.  We are also beginning the process to look for partners for the newest church plant projected for Merida, Yucatan in the Fall of 2022.  Pray for us that our Lord is leading in each phone call and personal visit.

Christmas Greetings 2020

Merry Christmas, with a lot of love from Eric & Dee Duggins
Picture

The present year has not developed as we had visualized during our planning time last December.  So many adjectives have been given to 2020 and we really have no novel description of a year that has been one of the most unusual we have experienced in our 60 plus years.   We have been saddened and grieved for people we have connected with over our years of ministry that lost family to COVID. We prayed for others and rejoiced at healing and we have been thankful that our family has not suffered loss of a loved one to this virus.  I think like most people, we were concerned and took protective precautions but at others times felt that there was over-reaction and paranoia.   We were deeply concerned to see the Church struggle to find a balance between being a center of proclamation, counsel, encouragement and community and still protecting the health of their people and the general populations in their cities and towns.

My thoughts several times has gone to marvel at how brothers and sisters in several parts of the world are still "Church" during times of major persecution and crisis.  I can remember reading in a church history class about how the pagans of the ancient world were amazed at the care of the sick by Christians during a major plague, even being the only ones willing to bury those that had lost their lives.  There is power in their testimony!  We pray that the Church continues to struggle to find the roles and message that calls the world to His loving and just Son!

Though a major purpose of this email is to send our love during this Christmas season we will also take a few lines to update you a bit about the ministry in Mexico.

The La Viña Church has been faithful during COVID.  Early in the pandemic the church did virtual church.  They were very effective and even did the Cell Groups through Zoom.  The government gave permission in August to begin in-person services at very reduced levels which the church did.  Fortunately, up until this month, we did not have COVID cases among the church membership.  We did have loss of jobs and several individuals and even families had to make moves that made their participation in the congregation impossible.  Before COVID the church was reaching 130 on Sundays however, in two services, the attendance was running closer to 70.   Unfortunately, COVID hit the congregation in the last week and about 30 people are with symptoms or are isolating because they were exposed to those with symptoms.

The congregation has continue to reach-out and we are ending the year with 26 baptisms.  The goal set at the planning retreat was 30, so we are very excited to see that the members were faithful in sharing with others and proclaimed Christ!

The new Anchor Church launched on October 4.   They had been reaching toward the high 40s at Sunday celebrations and also have three cells meeting.  They were also doing in-person meetings but unfortunately also had COVID touch the church members this month.  They are doing virtual church with the hope they will restart in-person meetings after the New Year.
PictureSergio and Holly Alvarado, coffee break in Merida, Yucatan during a Survey Trip for possible New Church Plant location
Since our return to Mexico in August we have continue to participate in the IMPACTOLatino's network of training and preparing church leadership in planting new congregations.  We are organizing the Administrative Teams for each new church and will be participating in their evaluation and planning times at the first of January.

We also continue to minister with New International as the Regional Directors of the Americas and we continue to keep in contact with those affiliated families in North, Central and South America.  We were only able to do one in-person visit this year to Chile and though several trips are in the plans for next year it will depend on the COVID restrictions as the year progresses.

We are also leading in the search of new partners for each of the new church plants.  As you might imagine, that came to a screeching halt in 2020.  We were able to host one church that is working toward partnering with the Anchor church and are hopeful we will get word about that participation soon.  There are a few other contacts we will need to follow-up with after our return to Indiana on January 12, 2021.

We also want to thank so many of you for your gifts to our ministry and we are thankful for the many congregations that are part of our support family and have been for many years.  We did have some loss in 2020, mostly because of COVID.  Three small congregations ended support at the end of this year and two significant congregation had to cut their support by half.  We ended up loosing close to $20,000 on a year budget.  However, we rejoice that one congregation connected with the Church Planting project got word of this loss and has given $10,000 to make up a portion of that loss.  That was a very kind gift and we were greatly encouraged.

Coming Events:
4-5 January: Evaluation and Planning Retreat for the Anchor Church
6 January: Up-line Call Regional Director
7-8 January: Evaluation and Planning Retreat for La Viña Church
11 January: IMPACTOnetwork Day of Celebration with the Church Staffs.

25 February: Zoom Call Regional Directors
1-5 March: Eric Teaching at Residency Program
15-19 March: Dee Teaching at Residency Program

Prayer Request:
- We want to thank you for praying for Dee's Mom.  She got COVID but came through it without major issues.  We really feel that was a miracle.
- Be praying for the two church planning retreats next month.  The groups will need a lot of wisdom as they deal with plans for 2021.
- We would ask that you pray with us that we are lead to congregations that are open to consider partnering with The Anchor Church and also for the next church projected to begin in 2022.

Duggins e-Update July 2020

Greetings in Christ Jesus.

We pray that you and your family are healthy and blessed.

Everyone talks about "these challenging times" even to the point the phrase has become a cliche that some have expressed they are tired of hearing.  It has been however, somewhat of a "culture shock" coming back to the United States with churches closed, mask on faces and rioting in major cities.  Even the Indianapolis downtown, we are told, is still boarded up after two nights of looting and burning.  We went on a field visit to Santiago, Chile in January of this year, just after major unrest and rioting in that Latin American city.  Santiago was a beautiful city, however, the downtown area was, well, basically trashed.  I can remember thinking, how thin the veneer of stability and civilization actually is in many countries around the world.  I don't think my mind really included my own country, but that is no longer.

The situation of the Church in all these situations has also been disturbing.  Forced to do "virtual church" our impression is that there has been a growing sense of isolation and disconnection.   Some have said to us since our return from Mexico, "the church is frozen in place" waiting for "the thaw".    Not a good place to be for God's mighty army.    I once read a book with the title, They Smell like Sheep, which talked about Christian leadership and the need to disciple effectively, loving and knowing their people to the point, they even smell like them.  Intimate and constant connection!  Difficult at best through "virtual Church".

Fortunately, it looks like at this point, in July 2020, that churches are beginning to move toward in-person connections and whether this month or at the first of August it seems that most churches will be trying to return to in-person worship and restart small groups.   However, it seems that it is going to take many congregations several months to build up the momentum they once had moving into 2020.   With only a few exceptions, we have seen that our partnering congregations have been able to remain financially stable.  That is a blessing!   We are grateful for both churches and individuals that have continued to faithfully support our ministry and projects.   However, we are getting clear signals that the development of new contacts for partnerships will be very slow, with many indicating that there might be openings to talk in 2021.

This situation is moving our team and family to rethink projects and make some significant changes in ministry plans.  One major change was that we moved out of a major portion of the office area we were renting in Queretaro and the team returned to home offices.  Fortunately, we were able to keep the classroom / conference area where the multi-media also is located.  This was necessary as we reacted to a loss of support for the La Viña Church of about $1000 a month from one congregation.     The launch of the second congregation, the Anchor Church (El Ancla) was moved to September and its ministry plan is adjusting significantly, since we have not been able to develop support partners to the degree needed to sustain the original ministry plan.

Our own plans are also in process of adjusting.   You may remember that we had planned to remain here in the States until the middle or end of October.   However, we actually arrived in Indiana a month early as travel restrictions began to be a major concern.  We have accomplished part of our plan, that of setting up our living situation here in Indianapolis.  With most churches expressing their reluctance to talk this year about new projects, we are considering returning to Mexico by the middle of August.

We will return to Mexico about August 15 and Dee will begin school for grandson, Eric.  Dee will not be teaching Abby and Emmy this next school year since they will be studying through an on-line school program from a Christian School in California.  Eric will continue with the Home Schooling material and will begin about the middle of August.

Upon return there will be several projects to work on.  One will be to reorganize our rented home.  Since the office was rearranged and partly vacated, Eric's office (books, desk, bookshelves, computer, etc) were all put into one of our bedrooms.  We will have to get rid of several pieces of furniture to set up one of the bedrooms into a home office.

The IMPACTO team is also reorganizing responsibilities a bit in the second part of this year.  Eric will be taking on the supervision of the Administrative Teams for each church plant.  He will be working with each of those teams and their leaders who function as a counselors and decision makers until an Eldership is appointed in each congregation.   Sergio Alvarado, the director of IMPACTOLatino, will be dedicating more time to the Residency Program and will also be helping with fundraising projects in the United States in a close partnership with us during the next months and into the new year.
Regional Directors of the Americas.

We continue in our responsibilities with New International as the Regional Directors of the Americas Region.  Our region has gown a bit with the addition of two families.   We now have 12 families that we minister to through being the Regional Directors.   In August we hope to do a field visit with a family working with Muslims in a major U.S. city, however with quarantine requirements by New York we have had to cancel that visit.

We just finished looking at Field Visits and budgets for the next year (August 2020 to July 2021).  We are hopeful that the situation with the Corona virus will stabilize permitting us do those visits which will mostly be done in 2021.
We recently received some sad news.   Rafa Gomez, son of Rosa Garcia notified us that Rosa had gone home to be with the Lord Jesus.  Rosa and her sister, Emma, were the first two people we had the privilege to study with in Mexico City and were the first to respond and be baptized.  Rosa, remained faithful these 38 years and must have been in her 80s when she went home.  We were blessed in many ways by Rosa during the years we were in Mexico City.

PRAYER REQUESTS:

1. We are grateful for so many that pray for us often and give sacrificially making it possible for us to minister with the Church Planting projects.   Thanks You!  Be praying that income remains stable!
2. We continue with our "life Change" and are excited that we continue to improve our health.  Eric hit a 100 pounds weight loss, and though returning to the U.S. that has gone up and down a bit, we both continue to walk and count the carbs.  Thanks for praying as we move to the next goal.
3. Be praying for the Anchor Church and its leadership as they plan for the launch of the church on September 20.  They are presently working on finding a meeting place in the area of Queretaro where they will be planting.
4. Be praying for Abby and Emmy as they transitions to a new education system.  Keep Dee in your prayers as she will need to be very creative to keep Grandson Eric engaged.
5. Keep Andrew in your prayers.   He continues to live in Minneapolis and fortunately, continues to work, though not with the number of hours he would need.  The church he is helping with has done virtur
A NEED! Can you HELP?

IMPACTOLatino has its next apprentice family.  Tony and Jackie Moreno have joined IMPACTO this month in Queretaro and will be with us for over a year as they learn and prepare to plant a church.  They are interested in planting a new church in Merida, Yucatan, Mexico.  They have collected promises of support for about half of their support.   We are in need to find support for the other half they will need during this year, which is about $600 monthly.  Can you consider a gift to them?  A one-time gift would be very helpful as would anyone wanting to take them on monthly support for the year they will be with us in Queretaro.  Please click on the link to make a donation or send a donation to New International with a note or in a the memo line of a check stating it is for "IMPACTOnetwork Moreno Family".

Duggin family e-update / April 2020

PictureHome Group Meeting by Zoom
Greetings in Christ.

It's been a very strange few weeks.

As we watched the news we saw our home country move toward major attempts to decrease the spread of Covid-19 but our adopted home seemed to be ignoring the implications.  Finally, in mid-march several of the State Governments in Mexico began to take steps such as closing schools and limiting crowds to 50 people.  Though most restaurants and taco places remained open.   After a week or so the State Government here in Queretaro dropped down to limits of 10 people and finally began closing most gathering places.    At the federal level there was little movement and what was especially worrying was that major events continued in Mexico City, one of the most densely populated places on earth.  That has now changed but there are concerns that Mexico will face some difficult days ahead.

The affect on the La Viña Church has been profound.  With the orders of no groups of 50 the church leadership moved to an on-line format for the Sunday Celebration.  There was still a hope that the small groups might continue, however, it quickly became evident that they too would need to move to on-line.  These transitions were eased somewhat by the expertise that IMPACTOLatino has in producing on-line materials and much of the production can be done at the Network offices and studio.   The small Group leaders are trying to keep connected with their groups through phone, text and even the group meetings continuing through Zoom or other apps .  We continue to coach church planters and participate on the Administrative Teams for La Viña Church and the Anchor Church by Zoom meetings.

PictureEric Peaching- first time to the church through a camera.
Church on-line at La Viña Christian Church in Queretaro, Mexico.   First Sunday was on March 22.  Special services will be on the
Church's Facebook site for Holy Week on Thursday, Friday and Easter Sunday.

The newest church, the Anchor Church was to launch at the end of May.  They are especially struggling with all the restrictions. Since they were just beginning to work with some small groups in their area.  These were new contacts and the groups had not yet "gelled.: We ask for your prayers for this new work to find creative ways to serve during this difficult time.

We have been staying home as much as possible and Holly has encouraged us  to be careful since we are in the higher risk demographics.  She and Sergio have even done some of the shopping for us.  We also have a small market that will deliver.  We did make a trip to Pachuca to arrange the final payment for the sale of the house and sign the final paperwork.  This was about a month early, but I think everyone wanted to get it finished with all the uncertainty.   As we left Pachuca we went by one of the plazas and it was filled with tents that were set up as a field hospital to prepare for what is coming.  That was sobering.

Many are very concerned that the medical system in Mexico will quickly become overwhelmed and it seems that the spread of the virus is about three to four weeks behind what has been happening in the United States.  The U.S. Ambassador encouraged all U.S. Citizens to leave Mexico saying something like, "If you get sick, where would you prefer to be in the hospital."  A bit strong but it does indicate that there are significant concerns for Mexico.  We therefore, have moved our leaving date to April 6. Our responsibilities with both IMPACTOLatino and New International  will be done from a home base in Indiana until October.

We have mixed feelings about leaving our family and team here in Mexico but we do feel that is the best decision at this point.  We will be staying with some long-time friends and supporters north of Indy until we are able to finalize our housing arrangements on the Southside of Indy.

New International activated its Global Crisis Response Team as the virus has progressed across the globe.  As Regional Directors of the Americas and Caribbean we are presently involved in doing a risk assessment for each of the affiliate families in our region.  We will then be working with those affiliate on contingency plans in the following weeks and will be in contact with our families by phone at least every other week over the next few months.

We express our gratitude to our partners for your prayers and the faithful support!

When we heard that 10 million lost jobs in the United States, we were shocked.   Our son, Andrew, was one of those so we are prayerful, asking the Lord keep supplying the needs of individuals and ministries around the world.

The financial situation is stretching our creativity as we find temporary ways to bridge this time of so much uncertainty. The owner of the Sport Club where the La Viña Church rents space is a Christian gentleman and has said that he will not charge for the month of April.  Our IMPACTOLatino staff has been working on ways that funds that can be moved around to cover some immediate needs as the La Viña Church has lost a significant donor.

BE PRAYING FOR:
1. We would ask you to pray for  Andrew.  He is in Minneapolis helping with a Church Plant and was working there to supply his needs.  He is one of those that have lost his job.  He is looking at options and also got word that the former job may be calling him back but nothing was yet sure.

2. Ask for you prayers as we travel on Monday, April 6.  We have our anti-bacterial gel and masks ready to use and praying there will not be any disruptions.

Duggins Family eUpdate / January 2020

We have been very blessed over the last months and we are grateful to you as partners who participate with us through your prayers and giving.

During the months of September and October we continued to visit potential supporters for the new churches in Mexico.  We were blessed through meetings with several new friends and church families that we feel will eventually become partners with IMPACTOLatino in planting Churches in the great cities of Mexico.

Many of you may know that we also began the process toward a significant transition in our own ministry.  We have been doing these two month trips to the United States to do fundraising and recruiting for IMPACTOLatino.  However, after several years we have seen that the two month timeframe really limits our effectiveness to talk with potential new partners and continue contacts with existing partnering congregations.   We and our team have come to the conclusion that we should spend more of our time in the United States dedicated to the development of new partnerships for each new church plant.  Therefore over the next couple of year we will divide our time between Mexico and the United States, spending 6 months in each location.

During the two months in the U.S. last year we researched several locations and we have decided that we will be making a home base in Indianapolis during our six months in the United States.  We will be setting up a living situation on the Southside of Indy.  As ministry responsibilities permit, this will give Dee access to visit with her mom who is in a memory care unit on the Southside of Indianapolis.  Our relationships are deep in Indy, so we feel there will be counsel and support for us as we use this centrally located city as a base to reach out to other regions around the United States.

On October 31 we returned to Queretaro, Mexico and made the next important steps in this transition.  We began the process to move from the house we had been in for almost three years.  We found a smaller, one level house and more importantly, with lower rents.   We move the first couple of weeks of November while attending several important projects, including the meeting of the Board of Advisors of IMPACTOLatino that were meeting for the first time in Mexico.

During the remaining part of 2019 we finished our moving process and began to integrate fully into the ministry here with the IMPACTO team.  Eric taught a week of the Residency Program in December and Dee returned to participating with the three grandkids, teaching again in their homeschooling program.  We continued to participate with the La Viña church as our home congregation in Mexico.  Both of us serve on the Administrative Counsel for La Viña, which functions in the place of an Eldership until a group of Elders is installed. We also organized and led the Christmas Eve Celebration at the La Viña church.

Upon return to Queretaro, we were also asked to join in the Administrative Counsel for the coming new congregation, The Anchor church.  This new congregation has its lead church planter and an additional staff couple that will most likely participate on a part-time arrangement.   The original plan was that this congregation would launch at the end of 2019, however, fundraising goals were not reached and that launch has had to be delayed.  The Administrative Counsel will be meeting in the next weeks to project when a new launch date is feasible.   Of the the annual need only 34% has been committed to by partnering congregations.  Fortunately, that is enough to pay the lead pastor and his family.   Andy and Bitia (lead pastors) have been able to move to the target area of Queretaro and the team has been able to being the cell group ministry.

Christmas and New Years were somewhat quiet this year, which actually was beneficial after several months of travel and major activities and responsibilities.  That calm lasted only until January 2, when we joined the Administrative Counsel of the La Viña church in their Evaluation and Planning Retreat that lasted for three days.  Great meetings!  However, we returned to Queretaro kind of mentally exhausted.  During this second week of January, we are both working to get back on our normal routine.  Dee has started her homeschooling responsibilities and Eric returned to the IMPACTO office and began 2020 planning details and meeting with the IMPACTO staff.

A few things have been put on the calendar.  We were blessed that Eric and Sergio were invited to attend a Church Planting conference in the Dominican Republic.  One of our partner church is paying for our plane flights so he and Sergio will be at this conference from January 23-26.

We also now have our trip planned to visit in Santiago, Chile to be with one of the New International affiliate families working in Santiago.  This is part of our responsibilities as New International's Americas Regional Directors.  This visit will be  February 5-12.  We will be planning other field visits with families working in the Americas Region throughout 2020.

Sergio Alvarado, Director of the IMPACTO ministry in Mexico, has also asked us to Coach with Geraldo and Natty Dominguez, lead pastors of La Viña church.  This will be a weekly breakfast meeting.   We will also be coaching with Joy and Hector Rodriguez (missionaries with IMPACTO and designated members of the La Viña church Staff) which will most likely be once or twice a month.

COMING EVENTS:
11-16 JAN. / Jim Vogel, New International International Operations director visiting in Queretaro.
23-26 JAN. / Church Planting Conference DR
30 JAN - 2 FEB. / AVANZA (Assessment of potential new church planters.  Eric will be one of the observers and Dee will be taking care of three grandkids).
5-12 FEB. / Field visit in Chile.
14 FEB. / Couples Dinner at La Viña church.
25-28 MAR./ Mexico Missionary Reunion
19-24 APR./ Regional Directors' Meeting in Ft. Myers (This may be moving as to its dates, but presently that is still on the calendar)
MAY/ The first few days of May we will be transitioning to INDY for the six months in the United States.  We will be in the United States from May to the end of October each year).

PRAISE AND PRAYER REQUESTS:

-We want to thank you for your prayers about the house sale in Pachuca.  Papers were signed in October.  The funds received will help us set-up our living situation in Indy.

-We would ask you to pray for Andrew.   He is settling into life in Minnesota and is excited about being part of the North City church plant.  However, he is looking at other options for employment.   Be praying for a smooth transition to a new opportunity.

-Be praying with us about the funding for the Anchor Church.  We still need $40,000 yearly to completely funding for this new church.  We are looking at new projects and funding sources to expand possibilities and the team just spent time brainstorming about how to move the funding forward.   Be praying for us as we lead in this area of IMPACTOLatino.  Though the lead pastor and his colleague is not waiting and has started several small groups, the official launch will most likely be delayed beyond the first half of 2020.

-We would ask that you be praying for a grand-nephew, Liam.  Because of problems he was born very early and his still in natal care.  He is gaining weight and improving each day.  Pray for his protection.

Duggins Family Update / March-July 2019

We have been blessed greatly these last months.  We have been involved in a wide range of ministries and we are very thankful that our Lord permits us to continue  ministry here in Mexico and throughout the America's Region with New International.  We wanted to catch you up on major events that have happened and will be continuing this year.  We are thankful for your faithful prayers and financial gifts!

MARCH

In March we made a trip to Pachuca to continue arranging for the sale of our home and looked at repairs, etc. that the house needed.  We are hopeful that the house will sale this year and we can begin researching options for a repurchase in Queretaro next year.   We would ask that you pray with us that the Lord will bring that family who would be blessed by this home that was very beneficial for our ministry in Pachuca.

In mid-March Dee left for a week to help Andrew prepare for his move to Minneapolis. Eric joined them during the weekend to rent a van and drive with him to his new city.  Andrew accepted the invitation to join a new church plant in the Minneapolis area.  The church members arranged a job at a Non-profit connected with the mother congregation.   He has now been in Minneapolis three months and just recently moved to his apartment he is sharing with two other single men who will be part of the  group starting the new church.   The new church is meeting in small groups presently and should launch in a community center this month of July.

Also in March, after a couple of years of absence, we were able to participate at the Mexico Missionary Reunion.  It was a wonderful three days of visiting and we heard a wonderful teaching from a very dynamic congregation in the Phoenix area.   We were excited to see several individuals and families we have not had to opportunity to visit with for a few years.

APRIL

As Regional Directors of the Americas and Caribbean we are to visit with each affilate family once a year.  We had tried to visit with our affilates in Haiti two previous years but because of unrest or huricanes, we were forced to cancel those trips.  Unfortunately, once again this year, we were forced to cancel our visit because of major unrest in Haiti that began in Februay.  The US Embassy had raised the threat level to Level 4, which was a "no-go" recommendation. We just recently got word that that the threat level has been lowered to 3, which means we should be able to replan that visit next year.

During the third week of April our team invited two senior Pastors to come to Queretaro for a Vision Summit about the next church plant planned for Queretaro.   David Garrison from the Northside Christian Church and Brandon Guindon of Real Life Texas and one elder from each congregation joined us here for the Vision Summit presentation and conversations about the possibility of participating with the new church planting team.  It was very quick but we saw that this was an effective way to present the vision that IMPACTO has to reach Mexico.  We are still talking with these congregations and are praying for their decison making processes and are hopeful for good news.

In April, we joined the Administrative Group of La Viña.  This group meets once a month to help counsel and guide our new Churches.   Dee has been participating in the Staff meetings for several months at the leader in the Children's Ministry area.  Eric will also be participating on the Administrative Group for the next church that will most likely launch the frist part of next year.

MAY

As International Cross-cultiural missionaries, we are not aways around for important family events.  However, in May we were able to participate in the wedding of Nancy, Dee's sister as she married Dennis Felix.   Eric was asked to do the ceremony at a small village close to Lafayette, Indiana.  It was a great family event and we were very excited for Nancy and Dennis.

The following week we had the privilage to visit with New International affilates in Buffalo that are working with refugees from Samolia that have settled in this northern US city.  We were able to visit with this visionary couple and are excited about their commitment to reach a very resistant ethnic group.

On May 19 the La Viña Church celebrated its first anniversary.  Eric and Dee were asked to organize that celebration which included the meal and the decorations.  It was a lot of work but the celebration and dinner were great blessings.

We had a extra special blessing however, our two granddaughters, Abby & Emmy were baptized after the the celebration.

JUNE

Upon returning to Mexico from our visit in Buffalo, Eric had to re-pack at the airport to continue traveling on to Dallas as Dee caught a bus back to Queretaro.  Eric participated at the Excel Discovery Center at the TCAL church on the southside of Dallas.  The Discovery Center is an assessment and teaching time for potential new church planters.  Joseph Klein and Holly Alvarado were part of the IMPACTO group that was invited to observe and participate in the assessment of several couples looking at Church Planting ministries.  After traveling about two weeks, Eric was happy to get home.

On Sunday, June 9, we celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary.  We went out to eat with Holly, Sergio and the kids for a special meal after church.  This was a simple celebration but a more extensive one will be coming in October.  We are taking a Cruise from Athens, through several islands, Crete and Patmos and will also visit the ruins of Ephesus (Turkey).  This cruise is called the "Cities of Paul" and will have teaching times lead by David Faust, associate minister at E91 Church of Indianapolis.   We are going with long-time friends Marvin and Donna Hitchcock.  It should be a great 10 days!

During the last week of June we had a group of youth from the Commiunity Christian Church of White March, Maryland (Baltimore area).  Twenty-four youth and sponsors were quite a project for the team to host in conjunction with the La Viña church.   The Community church is one of 5 U.S. congregations that are partners with the La Viña church here in Queretaro.   Joy and Hector Rodriquez took the lead with this group as the missionaries that work closely with La Viña.  They did a wonderful job!   As you could imagin, we were very blessed by this group but also very relieved that they all left with no major injuries or major crisis.

  • Praise, we both have remained disciplined in our weight reduction project.  Eric has lost 77 pounds and Dee is at 40 pounds.  We are walking fast almost everyday!  We lost pounds very fast the first few months but have slowed down in the last month.  Eric is still hopeful that he will be close to 100 pounds lower by the end of August.

Duggins Family eUp-date Jan.-Feb. 2019

It is amazing how fast this year is moving.  That may seem an amazing statement thinking that we are just in February, but it's been an amazing year even for just two months.

On January 9, Eric flew to Santiago de Chile to visit with one of the New International affiliate families of the Americas Region.  He had the privilege to preach at the Metropolitan Church of Christ and also had a couple of visits with Pastor Sergio.  We had a good and productive time with Habacuc & Liz Diaz, New International's family participating with the ministries at the Metropolitan church and in a Christian School serving both missionaries and Christian families in Santiago.   The Metropolitan church has been through some difficult times in the last couple of years but it is exciting to see that the congregation is recovering and beginning to grow again.

In this visit, Eric saw several major urban areas that need new dynamic churches.  Haitians have migrated to Santiago in significant numbers and a Haitian outreach could have a major impact.   One concerning note however, the Church generally in Santiago seemed discouraged with reaching this and other fast growing communities in the urban areas of Chile.  Several Christian leaders seemed to feel that the "evangelistic zeal" has  become less intense in Chile and the culture is moving away from Christ at a significant pace.
The Residency Program of the IMPACTOnetwork began again about the same time Eric left for Chile.  Upon return to Mexico, he had to finish preparations for two days (4 hours) of teaching with the Residents and the students from the Christian University of Mexico.  All four of our missionary men of IMPACTOLatino are teaching in the Residency Program and we are excited see how the residents and the students are expressing life changing insights in church planting and living in Christian community.

On January 9, New Mission Systems International launched their new branding.  NMSI is now New International and has a new updated logo and a new webpage.     The new branding has been in the works for about a year.  There are several reasons the new branding was launched and one important reason was to make the name less problematic in sensitive areas of the world where New International has workers.

New International has the same heart and vision, Transforming Lives Globally.   We wanted you to also be aware that donations can be accepted in both names presently, but eventually the "New International" name will need to be used for checks.  The webpage donation page has been simplified and donations can be done through debit cards, credit carts  or electronic checks.
The last week of January we headed to Fort Myers for the annual meeting of the Regional Directors of New International.   We were blessed by the meetings with the other directors and were especially blessed by the teachings of David Aderholt on Professional and Personal Development strategies.   Jeff Metzger, Director of New International, also joined us and updated the directors on advances within the mission generally.

We returned to Mexico on February 2 from Fort Myers and worked with the IMPACTO team to prepare for a seminar that the network was offering to the students, leaders of the La Viña church and other congregations in the Queretaro area.  The seminar was on the discipling program, ROOTED and was lead by three staff members of the Compass Christian Church from Colleyville, Texas.   We had close to 30 participates in the two night introduction and teaching about the ROOTED program with five different congregations participating in the four hours of teaching.

It was a great blessing to have CM Habermelh (new director of International Missions at Compass), Heidi, who is a staff member in the missions area and Rowy who is the director over the Rooted program at Compass share this life changing discipling program.  Our team hosted these good friends and we were able to share quite a bit about the vision of the network.

PictureEric & Dee Duggins teaching at the Valentine Dinner
On February 14th the La Viña church hosted a couples dinner.  Over half of those that attended were first time visitors..  We were asked to give a short teaching as part of the programs so we did a teaching about the LOVE BANK and making deposits through the FIVE LOVE LANGUAGES.    We were given about 20 minutes, so the teaching was short but seemed to be well received by all the participants.

On February 21 begins one of the network's major annual events, AVANZA.   AVANZA is the IMPACTOnetwork's assessment of potential new church planters.  Three couples are confirmed to participate in the four days of teaching, group activities, interviews and evaluations concentrated on these three couples that are considering planting a church with the network.   Eric will be one of the observers evaluating these couples.  Dee is on Grandkid duty, since Holly is the director of the four days of AVANZA.

We are excited that Pastores Gerardo and Nati Dominguez have arrived in Queretaro just after Christmas and  they are now taking on the role of the Church Planting pastor of La Viña church.  Just before Christmas the La Viña church moved from the offices of the IMPACTOnetwork to a rented facility in a local sports club.  The club is owned by a Christian family and has been very open to the church even giving us wall space on the outside of the club for promotional signs.  On Sunday, February 10, we had 102 people present for the Sunday celebration, a record since the Launch Sunday last May.

COMING EVENTS:

February 24 / Eric is preaching at La Viña.
February 26 / Eric is joining the Management Team for La Viña.  Dee continues to direct the Sunday School program at La Viña.
March 27-30 / Mexico Missionary Reunion
April 2 to 9 / We will be doing a field visit to Haiti.  Two New International affiliates are in Haiti.  One in Port-au-Prince and other in norther Haiti, Pigon.   We would ask you be praying about this trip.  There has been major unrest in Haiti with anti-government riots.  We are hopeful that things will return to normal by the time of our visit.  We have had to cancel two previous trips because of challenges in-country.
April 22-24 / Houston Pastors' Visit in Queretaro.  Two congregations in the Houston area are coming to Queretaro to talk about partnership with the next church plant in Queretaro this year.  They are indicating that they are wanting to bring leaders from other congregations that could potentially partner with the network.
PRAYER REQUESTS:

1. PRAISE, we both have been working to get more healthy.  Eric has lost 50 pounds and Dee over 22 and we are walking almost everyday.  We are excited about the progress we are seeing!
2. Be praying for the visit of the Houston Pastors to Queretaro.  We are praying that these congregations will catch the vision for reaching the cities of Mexico and partner with us on the next church plant.
3. Be praying for Andrew (our son) as he looks at an opportunity for ministry in the next couple of months.  He has been invited to participate in a new church plant.  He will need to work while serving and he is also looking at raising support that will cover a portion of his living needs.  We are exited for him but there are still a lot of details to work through and will involve a move to a new city.
4. A PRAISE: We have had two major donations to the IMPACTOLatino ministry.  We are very thankful for a generous gift from SouthEast Christian Church in Louisville, KY and the Compass Christian Church in the Dallas area.  We also welcome the Woodland Hill Christian Church of Abingdon, VA as a partner with the Duggins Family and IMPACTOLatino.  And we are thankful for the individuals and families that participate with us and have for many years!   THANK-YOU!

eUpdate - Eric & Dee Duggins

We are grateful for your prayers and to so many that participate with us in the ministry of starting new churches in the urban centers of Mexico.  Our IMPACTOLatino Team is working hard as we minister with the leaders of the first church plant in Queretaro and continue to plan for other new church plants in coming years.

CHURCH PLANTING IN MEXICO'S MAJOR CITIES
The IMPACTOnetwork (our name in Latin America) is up and running and moving forward fast!   Sergio Alvarado is leading the network as we prepare Lead Pastors, team them up with a Missionary Family and begin to plant churches.   Our first two churches are planned for Queretaro, Mexico.  The fastest growing urban center in Mexico presently.
Picture
The first church was launched in May.   La Viña, (The Vinard Christian Church) is meeting in the offices of the IMPACTOnetwork only until the end of this year.  Research is now being done on possible places to rent for the church celebration, Sunday School and youth programs and for their office space.  The attendance at the church is increasing, with 89 present last Sunday (August 19) and the first baptism was done after the church service at the Christian University of Mexico.  Though we are not on the management or staff of La Viña, we are very involved.  Eric is in the preaching roll and is also teaching in the Cell leadership program and Dee has joined him in leading a Cell Group of potential leaders at La Viña.  Dee is also organizing the Sunday School area for this new church.

The Residency Program began this month (August, 2018).  Tuesday to Friday the IMPACTOnetwork staff is teaching our residents Andres and Bitia, who have a high possibility of being our next Lead Pastors with the next church plant here in Queretaro.  We have also partnered with the Christian University of Mexico (UCM) and the senior students are also taking our classes.  7 students have joined us for 8 hours of teaching each week until May 2019.   These classes are also being taped with the hope that the teaching can be used in other environments later.

OUR FALL TRIP
We continue to direct the area of Fundraising and Recruitment in the United States for the IMPACTOLatino team.  We are now planning our fall trip to visit potential partner churches for the 2019 church plant in Queretaro.  Eric will leave for Houston on September 21 and after several days in the Houston area will proceed to Dallas.  He will return to Queretaro on October 2 and then we both will fly to Indiana for visits in Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia, Atlanta and finally the Cincinnati area where we will participate in the iCOM (International Conference on Missions) and the IMPACTOLatino Board of Advisors meetings on November 18.  We will return to Queretaro on November 24.
