Something we like to do as a family during Thanksgiving dinner (you should try it too) is to take turns going around the table sharing something that you are thankful for this year.
We are so thankful for the time we got to share with you this year, share meals, share stories and share the heart for spreading the gospel together! Thank you for having us, caring for us, loving us and praying for us. It's a blessing to partner with you in strategically planting healthy churches in Mexico.
Have some stuffed turkey and get stuffed, you turkey! Ah.. and don't forget the pumpkin pie :)
Happy Thanksgiving from Joe, Patricia and Caleb Klein.
I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. Phillipians 1:3-6
Months ago, upon considering the challenge of building a partnership team, we were apprehensive and a little scared but we trusted God and we have found that it has been a privilege and a true joy to share with others the call to bring the lost to Christ through new churches!
God is the author of unexpected friendships! Over the course of our travels we have been so thankful for God's hand in meeting and reconnecting with some amazing folks.
One story comes to mind; it started in August, when we were speaking at a church in Olympia Washington. A sweet couple came up to us to say ‘hi’ and thanked us for sharing, it was nice to meet Janie and Jack. They even invited us to visit them (if we were ever near Lexington Kentucky). Because that’s what Jesus followers do… they invite people to their house! (See Acts 16:15).Janie and Jack were completely unaware that Kentucky was our next planned state to visit, and that we had been praying that weekend for connections to visit and share there (although we already had some appointments and were invited to speak at Kentucky Christian University).
Once back in Dallas, preparing to visit Kentucky, we called up the couple and asked if their invitation was still open, only to hear a family emergency had kept them in Washington, this led to them introducing us to their son, a pastor, and his family who then invited us to visit them.
When we arrived in Kentucky (back in September) our first appointment was to visit the Whitaker family whom we had never met and only spoken to once on the phone… but we cannot explain the amazing confidence and excitement we both felt when we arrived for a Sunday evening Ice cream social at their church…it was the feeling of going to our home church and being reunited with dear friends (the very first time we met)! We visited the Whitakers for a few days and amid games, conversations, and pizza it felt like a family reunion!
Friendship, when built on the foundation of Jesus and united on the ground of sharing the gospel, start out strong and grow even deeper! We were excited to get the chance to swing back around after other visits, see both Whitaker families and have the chance to preach at their church and share our calling to ministry. We are so excited Cornerstone Christian Church is now our partner in ministry and together plant churches that share Jesus in Mexico!
This is just one of many stories where we have seen God's hand in connecting us with His body and building our partnership team throughout our travel. Cornerstone Christian Church pledged support this month, the forth church to join our support team (in addition to individuals and families). As our partnerships develop and more opportunities to share open we are ever closer to reaching the goal. We have crossed the halfway mark (50%) of fundingsent and pledged needed to meet our monthly budget and momentum is building! We are so thankful to God and to all of you for your prayers, encouragement, and support!
We also had the opportunity this month to participate as staff in a church-planter assessment (called Discovery Center) with a wonderful and experienced group called, Excel Leadership. That experience will be useful as we help in equipping church planters in Mexico. Impacto Latino's first church planter assessment is planned for February 2018 (just a few days after we will arrive in the country).
Our family has been doing great through all the travels, thanks to your prayers and to lots of folks who have shown us love! Baby Caleb has been a good sport and so much fun, with his big smiles, funny coos, and stealing the hearts of all!
Highlighted below are the states we've traveled developing our partnership team in 2017! If you haven't yet, join the team!
In Christ alone and all for him,
Joe and Patricia Klein
Greetings and salutations to one and all! Here is a quick update about our preparation for the mission field in Queretaro, Mexico (launching Feb. 2018).
It seemed good to us and to the Holy Spirit to share our mission with people spanning across distant regions of the United States (since both Patty and I grew up overseas) and we trust God to build a support team around us as we go.
Our plan for me to teach in Texas last year was a good one because it allowed us to start partnership development over the Summer. In June, our support team began building as we visited Florida, Oklahoma, Texas, Oregon, and Washington... now we have just arrived in Kentucky.
Throughout September, we will be visiting churches and individuals in Kentucky, Ohio in October, then Indiana and Illinois on our way to the ICOM (international conference on Missions), and Impacto Latino board of directors annual meeting in November.
Our schedule in Kentucky and Ohio is nearly full but there are some dates in our schedule still open and others that could be flexible so we are excited for surprise divine appointments along the way (hint, hint)! God has continued to open doors to share our vision and He has provided for our needs, safety, and encouragement. Each home we have stayed in and everywhere we have shared has been such a cool blessing and we are thankful for all who believe in us, in our ministry, and in the Lord our God.
As we travel, we have also been spending time praying for our family in the Caribbean, our team members in Mexico, friends, and others who have been affected by this unprecedented season of storms, hurricanes, and earthquakes.
We invite you to pray with us for all affected by hurricanes Harvey, Irma, Jose, Maria, and the earthquakes in Mexico.
On a sad note; an amazing man whose life was a testimony of the love of our God and one of our dear friends, Brian Buwalda, was killed by a downed power line while helping a neighbor during Hurricane Irma in Orlando Florida. It is sad to say goodbye but we know he is in paradise with our Lord!
Brian was a great follower of Jesus and one of our main support partners (and sponsored a visit to Israel this December). Brian often talked about the two roles in answering the commission to spread the Gospel and share Jesus; those sending and those going hard at work, as one team, each doing his part. Brian understood that and humbly lived his part of the gospel-sharing team through faithful financial support, encouragement, and prayer... we are so thankful for Brian's work for the kingdom which will have a ripple effect and will see many, many, souls brought to the Lord.
We are thankful to share that our team in Queretaro is safe after the big earthquake to the south as they were out of the range of direct impact. Mexico City was shaken pretty hard though and we are praying for those affected and the families of those who died. There have been 323 confirmed deaths due to earthquakes in central Mexico this month. The urgency for people to know Jesus has never been greater than now. Let us step up and be a part of the gospel-sharing team together!
"He is the one we proclaim, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone fully mature in Christ". Colossians 1:28 (NIV)
All for Jesus,
Joe and Patricia Klein
God is so good and rich with blessings to us. The Joe Klein family has officially embarked on our great adventure to develop a team of partners and supporters to join us in the awesome calling to equip and train church planters in urban Mexico.
So, we are excited to share that our partnership team is growing steadily. Many wonderful Jesus followers have caught the vision for healthy churches in the cities of Mexico and have stepped up to partner with us. Now over ten families have committed to partnering with us and comprise 15% of our needed monthly budget.
Last month we received the good news that the Community at Lake Ridge (TCAL) church has committed to partnering with us as our ‘sending church’ and living link in the United States. I have known this 'community blessing' church since they were a young church plant, eight years ago in Mansfield, Texas. I was a member of TCAL when I taught in Texas and had the joy to serve as aSunday school teacher for children’s church. TCAL has been very faithful to support and encourage me in the calling to church planting. It's a blessing that they have adopted our family as their principal ministry in Latin America. Glory to God! We are so thrilled to be partnered with a church so dedicated to the growth of God’s kingdom through new churches starting.
We have scheduled to travel throughout the remainder of 2017 [Washington State in August, Dallas Texas over Labor Day, Kentucky in September, Ohio in October, Indiana, and Illinois in November] and into January of 2018 [Texas and Oklahoma in January] to continue to develop our team of partners in ministry and visit those who have already begun partnering with us in prayer and share about our calling as we invite more to catch the vision and join the team. We plan to move to Queretaro, Mexico, in February of 2018.
We have begun our travel and our first stop has been to visit the Pacific Northwest (Washington and Oregon) where I was born and where much of my family still live. We have had a wonderful time visiting family, friends and churches, camping, blueberry picking and sharing about our ministry. Visiting has been so uplifting and fun but most fun of all has been introducing our baby Caleb.
Travel is a challenge but also so much fun with a sweet little (2-month-old) baby. It's amazing to see him growing and learning everywhere we go. Patricia and I have had the same struggles as many new parents (little sleep) but it has also given me such joy to be a dad, to be with my boy, and to see my bride being an amazing mother. We both cherish the chance to take these steps in faith together and begin this ministry as a family.
We are now 20 days into our goal of full funding by 150 days. As we continue partnership development we look forward to visiting good friends, making new friends, and sharing all about what Jesus has called us to. Let us know if you would like to see us, visit with us, hear from us, or if you may be able to host us when we visit and please keep us in your prayers!
All for Jesus,
Joe and Patricia Klein
Especially true for our hearts today, as we begin to taste the excitement of our vision coming into focus and our support team growing. As a united force, we are together preparing to respond to the calling to equip, train, and coach new church planting teams in urban Mexico. A few major highlights follow...
Apostle Paul went where God led him, and God led him to start churches in cities (fifty are mentioned in the Bible) many were cultural centers which tended to influence whole regions such as Ephesus and Corinth. Today, the largest metropolitan center in the western hemisphere is urban central Mexico (in and surrounding Mexico City) which has influence over the whole of Latin America. So like Paul, we are responding the call from God to make disciples and strong church-planting churches that will send out more.
As you may know, we plan to move to Queretaro, Mexico (the city just north of Mexico City) in February of 2018 to contribute to the equipping, training, and coaching of launch teams for new churches with the first two church plants to be launched in the Fall.
Our big (Klein Family) goal: To be fully funded by December 2017 --
Mission field ready in 150 days!
David Livingston once said: 'Christ alone can save the world, but Christ cannot save the world alone.' Take a second to think about that... our commission from Jesus was to be his hands and feet and join him in saving the world and we can only be his body when we work together.
In order to develop a support team, we will be traveling to different regions across the country this upcoming Fall. If you are around in the following regions, please let us know because we would love to visit with you, introduce you to our new member of the family and share with you personally about our ministry in Mexico!
We are very excited about this call God has put in our hearts and we would love for you to be part of it. The following are some ideas of how we could team up and work together:
May God bless you and keep you,
Joseph and Patricia Klein
Thank you for your interest in receiving updates about our ministry. As the school year winds down, we have begun the process of raising support for our mission to train and coach church planting teams in urban central Mexico with IMPACTOLatino.
Our goal is to keep you updated with the progress and ways that you can be involved in this great adventure God has entrusted us. We would love to celebrate with you the victories we have accomplished through our amazing God during the past months:
Each month we will be emailing you some of our prayer requests so you can stay connected in how God is working to prepare our hearts for His ministry in Mexico. Here are some prayer requests for the month of April:
We can't wait to join the team in Mexico!
May God bless and keep you,
Joseph and Patricia Klein
Dear Family and Friends,
Patricia and I are finally settling in to our recent move to Texas after getting married this July. We are excited to share with you our future plans and ways that you can join us in the next mission God has placed on our hearts.
Over the last two years, Patricia has helped me with the awesome task of starting a new church in Santo Domingo, called ICLM -Iglesia Cristiana Los Manantiales (the Springs Christian Church). Since then, we have both grown tremendously and feel God has helped clarify the calling He has in store for our next adventure -- to train church planters in Mexico!
Santo Domingo Church plant
After three years, ICLM/The Springs now has a good foundation in sound doctrine and a solid base of committed believers. Currently, the church has members plugged into six small groups that actively meet to study the Bible throughout the week. Before leaving, God allowed me to coach and ordain a new pastor, Jose Luis Feliz. He and his family will take our place to carry on the work of pastoring the church and reaching more for Christ through ministry to the local community. While the church works towards self-sustainability, Jose will continue in a bi-vocational role. working a full time job and pastoring. Patricia and I are committed with our current support and personal funds to continue supporting ICLM/The Springs with prayer and financial needs to be able to continue ministry.
Please email us if you would like to help with this endeavor.
What will we do in Mexico?
Over the next eighteen months we will be actively raising support to join the IMPACTOLatino team in Queretaro, Mexico in the Spring of 2018.
We first heard about IMPACTOLatino from some very dear friends of ours who have been working with this ministry to plant churches in Mexico. Over the past decade, IMPACTOLatino has successfully planted five churches that are now functioning independently and thriving just north of Mexico City. Now, IMPACTOLatino is launching a larger strategy to reach even more for Christ. We were invited to join the team tasked with training new church planting teams equipped to launch new churches all across central Mexico. The goal is to plant two churches every year. We spent much time in prayer and sought counsel before joyfully accepting this exciting opportunity.
What are we doing now?
After our wedding in July, we moved to Irving, Texas to begin planning logistics and raising support for our upcoming ministry in Mexico. God blessed me quickly with a full time teaching position. I am teaching 8th grade Science at a public school during this school year. While I teach, Patricia will begin organizing and growing our support team. This will give us the chance to build a cushion fund and to raise our startup fund for Mexico. Then, during the Summer and Fall of 2017 we will both dedicate full time to sharing the vision with friends and families and to grow our community of supporters for God's kingdom.
We invite you to partner with us as we embark on this calling God has given us. We know we have taken a huge leap of faith, but our God is faithful and together we will bring many to know Him. We have been called to reach people who are lost without Jesus and we believe God has equipped us with the necessary tools to train church planters in Mexico and to bring the good news of salvation!
Here is how you can help:
We need prayer warriors to shower us in protection, wisdom, and open up the hearts of the people in Mexico
Have your church host us during a service or host us in your home so we can share our vision with others.
Sign up, read and share our updates with your friends and familiy. We will be updating our team via email, Facebook, and our website
